Permanence and Effects of Coloration

Level 1: Temporary Color

How do the different types of hair color products work?

Level 1: Temporary color
These colorations are easy to wash out – they last for only six to eight shampoos.  However, they cannot lighten hair, nor are they suitable for covering grey hair.

Temporary hair color products are easy to identify – they consist of only one component, which is ready for use.  You can apply this directly to hair without mixing.

Here’s how it works:
Temporary hair color products are also called direct-acting colorants.  The color pigments are water-soluble and attach directly to hair.  Basically, they only penetrate the hair surface.

Use caution with stressed or damaged hair!  If the cuticle is not completely sealed, some color molecules can penetrate the hair interior.  This makes them more difficult to wash out and causes your temporary color to last longer.

Direct-acting colorations include:

Toner Cremes
Toner cremes are intensive direct-acting color with a caring Creme or gel formula.  They possess a very high proportion of colorants.  They give you a deep tinting, which lasts up to eight shampoos.
Note: The lighter your original hair color, the more intensive and luminous the resulting color.  Toner cremes are not suitable for grey hair!
For temporary color, Palette offers:

Instant Color – for vibrant, shimmering colors that last six to eight shampoos.
Color XXL XCite – for intense, prismatic colors with brilliant multi-reflex shine.  Lasts six to eight shampoos.
